Participants in Guatemala declared special guests
GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, April 17, 2013 – The participants at
the Gatorade Guatemala Beach Volleyball Tournament, the third
stop of the 2013 NORCECA Circuit were declared special guests at
the opening ceremony held on Wednesday night.
Each national delegation received a diploma presented by the
Mayor of Guatemala City, Alvaro Arzu who was accompanied by
Marta Centeno, President of AFECAVOL and FIVB and NORCECA Vice
President, as well as members of the Control Committee.
The event was announced to the local media by Maria Dolores
Molina, vice minister of sports, who remarked the commitment of
Guatemalan government to support the activities of beach
volleyball.
“For seven consecutive years Guatemala has hosted one of the
stops of the NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit along with our
official sponsor Gatorade, so it is now a long tradition,”
President of the Guatemalan Federation, Enrique Santis said.
Angel Rivas, supervisor of the event, on behalf of NORCECA and
its President, Mr. Cristobal Marte Hoffiz, expressed his
gratitude to the municipal and sports authorities of Guatemala
for being a traditional ally to beach volleyball.
Centeno de Sajche expressed the satisfaction of all the
authorities of NORCECA for the expansion of beach volleyball in
recent years.
“The growth of the NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit has been
huge as well as its organization level,” she said. “That is the
reason the circuit is granting points to the world ranking.”
“With this event played at Campo Marte in the centre of the
capital we bring the beach to the city,” event director Arnaldo
