CAGLIARI, Italy, October 8, 2021 – World
champions Sarah Pavan and Melissa Humana-Paredes
of Canada advanced directly to the semifinals of
the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Finals in
Cagliari after winning the women’s Pool B with a
perfect 4-0 win-loss record.
On Friday, the Canadians recorded a straight-set
victory over Switzerland’s Anouk Vergé-Depré and
Joana Heidrich 2-0 (21-15, 21-11) and then
claimed a comeback win over United States’ Sarah
Sponcils and Kelly Claes 2-1 (13-21, 21-14,
15-11).
They join Russians Nadezda Makroguzova and
Svetlana Kholomina in the semifinals and will
play the winners of the Saturday’s
quarterfinals.
Their respective opponents will emerge from
Saturday’s quarterfinal clashes, featuring
Brazil’s Agatha Bednarczuk and Eduarda Santos
Lisboa against Germany’s Karla Borger and Julia
Sude, and an all-American duel between April
Ross and Alix Klineman and Sarah Sponcil and
Kelly Claes. |
