CAGLIARI, Italy, October 6, 2021 – The world
champions and the Olympic champions had opposite
results during the first day of action at the
FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Finals in
Cagliari, Italy.
While world champions Sarah Pavan and Melissa
Humana-Paredes of Canada got off to splendid
start by winning their two matches in straight
sets, Olympic gold medalists April Ross and Alix
Klinemann of the United States lost three-round
battles on Wednesday.
In Pool B, Pavan and Humana-Paredes defeated
Sanne Keizer and Madelein Meppelink of
Netherlands 2-0 (21-17, 25-23) and Brazil’s
Agatha Bednarczuc and Eduarda Santos Lisboa 2-0
(21-18, 22-20).
In Pool A, Ross and Klinemann first lost 2-1
(22-24, 21-19, 15-10) against Russians Nadezda
Makroguzova and Svetlanana Kholomina and
returned to fall against Germans Julia Sude and
Karla Borger 2-1 (22-20, 13-21, 15-8).
