CAGLIARI, Italy, October 9, 2021 – World
champions Sarah Pavan and Melissa Humana-Paredes
of Canada will meet Germany’s Karla Borger and
Julia Sude for the gold medal and top money
prize at the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour
Finals on Sunday.
Pavan and Humana-Paredes, winners of Pool B with
a 4-0 record, defeated Olympic champions April
Ross and Alix Klinemann of United States 2-0
(21-15, 21-12).
Meanwhile, Germans Karla Borger and Julia Sude
defeated Pool A winners Russians Nadezna
Makroguzova and Svetlana Kholomina 2-1 (21-13,
20-22, 15-11).
Ross and Klinemann had completed the journey
into the semifinals after losing their first two
matches. They succumbed in three-set battles to
start pool play but recovered to win their next
three matches earning a ticket the final-four
round of the competition.
In an all-American duel, Ross and Klinemann
defeated compatriots Sarah Sponcil and Kelly
Claes 2-1 (18-21, 21-13, 15-8). In the other
quarterfinals, Borger and Sude defeated
Brazilians Agatha Bednarczuc and Eduarda Santos
2-1 (21-16, 24-26, 15-11).
