Pavan/Humana and Fendick/Ross finish pool play at 3-0

VIENNA, Austria, July 31, 2017 – Canada’s Sarah Pavan and Melissa Humana’Paredes and Laura Fendick and April Ross of United States won their respective pools in the preliminary phase of the FIVB Women’s Beach Volleyball World Championship with 3-0 win-loss records.

Pavan/Humana-Paredes won their three matches without ceding a single set. They started with a 21-13, 23-21 victory over Flier/van Iersel of Netherlands, continued with a 21-16, 21-13 job against Italians Menegatti/Perry and concluded with a 21-16, 21-13 win against Chinese Yue/Wang.

Fendick/Ross won over Austria’s Laird/Ngauamo 21-11, 21-18 and China’s Xue/Wang 21-17, 20-22, 15-9 before trouncing Australians Bawden/Clancy 21-16, 21-13.

Sarah Hughes/Kim Claes, Emily Day/Nicole Branagh and Summer Ross/Brooke Sweat of United States advanced to the main draw with a 2-1 record as also did Canadians Heather Bansley and Brandie Wilkerson and Julie Gordon and Camille Saxton.

Costa Rica’s Karen Cope and Natalia Alfaro lost their three matches in pool play while Cubans Leila Martinez and Lidy Echeverría finished with 1-2.
