Penrose and Olivier Punish Lares: Plataneros
Hand Patriotas Their Second Straight
Loss
BARRANQUITAS, Puerto Rico, November 9, 2025 – In a
night filled with intensity and offensive precision, the Plataneros
de Corozal defended their home court at Juan C. Berrios Coliseum and
swept the Patriotas de Lares, dealing them their second consecutive
loss of the Men’s Superior Volleyball League (LVSM) season.
The scores were 33-31, 25-23, and 25-23, with all
sets decided in crucial moments by the offensive duo of Jalen
Penrose and Spencer Olivier. Penrose was the undisputed star of the
night with 28 points (27 attacks and 1 ace), while Olivier
contributed decisive kills to close out the second and third sets.
The opening set was dramatic, extending into extra
points. Penrose broke the 31-all tie with a powerful swing from
position four and sealed the set with a block on Gabriel Colón. In
the second, Corozal reached set point with another Penrose spike
that deflected into the stands, and Olivier finished it from the
left wing.
The third set maintained the tension. Penrose broke a
22-all tie with a kill from position two, and a triple block on
Erick Ramos pushed the score to 24-22. Although Lares fought back,
Olivier once again closed it with authority from position four.
For the Patriotas, Garrett Muagututia led the offense
with 12 points, all on attacks. Lares, who had remained undefeated
until the previous round, now drops to 5-2 with 15 points, while
