				PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, March 6, 2016 - National youth team 
				captain Marlon “Waldo” Phillip and team-mate Nicholas Prescott 
				led from the front as defending champions Technocrats improved 
				to a 2-0 record in the Flow-sponsored T&T Volleyball Federation 
				Men’s Premier Division with a come-from-behind win over a T&T 
				Development Squad on Sunday.   
				
				Technocrats overcame a slow start to prevail 28-30, 25-20, 
				25-15, 25-19 at the Southern Regional Indoor Sports Arena, 
				Pleasantville. Phillip ended the match with 20 points which 
				featured 13 spikes and seven blocks and Prescott provided 
				support with 17 points, which was laced with 16 spikes while 
				Newton Grant had ten.   
				
				Also among the scorers were the veteran trio of Kelvin Alleyne 
				(eight) and Hollis Charles and Sean Morrison, with seven each as 
				they dominated on spikes 48-33, blocks 8-5 and aces, 
				14-2. Enrique Henry had 17 and Adriel Roberts, nine for the 
				national youth development squad.    
				
				The win lifted Technocrats to seven points, three behind 
				Southern United Volleyball Academy (SUVA) (2-1) which followed 
				by sweeping Titans on Saturday, 3-0. However, going after a 
				third win on Sunday, SUVA was stunned by Defence Force 25-17, 
				22-25, 25-16, 21-25, 15-17.    
				
				Leading the way for Defence Force was Christian Francois with 20 
				points, which included 19 spikes, and the pair of Jeremy Solomon 
				and Rawle Romain, who both got ten points. SUVA, meanwhile which 
				dominated on spikes, 48-37 and blocks, 14-11, but still went 
				under had 15 points each from national assistant coach, Essiel 
				Seecharan and T&T middle-blocker, Kevin Nimrod.   
				
				Fellow national middle-blocker Russel Pena, Rene Roberts and 
				Maalik Springle added nine, eight and seven points respectively 
				for SUVA. And in the opening men’s match on Sunday, former 
				France-based T&T international Ryan Stewart tallied 18 points in 
				firing former champions, Glamorgan past Titans 25-18, 25-21, 
				25-16 to move to seven points as well.   
				
				Rodney Creston chipped in with six and the trio of Brandon 
				Horsham, Colin Felician and Shervon Calliste, five apiece for 
				Glamorgan who outscored its rival on spikes, 39-17 and also 
				committed lesser errors, 25-26. For Titans, which led on service 
				aces, 7-6 with blocks teams having five blocks each, Enrique 
				Henry got eight points, Josima Timothy seven, and Adriel 
				Roberts, six in the loss.   
				
				Meanwhile in the women’s division, former champions, Glamorgan 
				and T&T Development Squad got their first taste of 
				victory. Beaten on the opening night by bitter rival 
				Technocrats, Glamorgan whipped past champion, University of T&T 
				25-14, 25-20, 25-17. Youth team spiker Reann Young and senior 
				team middle-blocker Jalicia Ross-Kydd added five points for 
				Glamorgan which outscored its opponent on aces, 6-3 and 
				benefited from 45 unforced errors by UTT.   
				
				Shernice De Four had a team-high seven points and the duo of 
				Rejeanne Wallace and Kerdisha Sutherland, six points each for 
				UTT which managed to be on par in spikes with Glamorgan at 
				21-each also held the edge on blocks 4-3 in the 70-minutes 
				contest. The win lifted Glamorgan to a 2-1 record and nine 
				points, one behind Technocrats (2-0) while Southern United 
				Volleyball Academy (SUVA) is third with five points, one more 
				than Big South East Port-of-Spain (SEPoS).   
				
				National youth team skipper, Nicolette De Mille tallied 18 
				points and Olympic beach volleyball hopeful Malika Davidson 
				added 15 to inspire the T&T Development Squad to a 22-25, 25-23, 
				25-23, 24-26, 15-8 defeat of West Side Stars in the day’s other 
				women’s match. 
				
				Kerdisha Sutherland also contributed eight points for the 
				national youth developmental team while Latifa Gonzales (15), 
				Saderami Williams (11) and Anyika Joseph (nine) were the main 
				scorers for West Side Stars in the loss. With the win, the T&T 
				youngsters improved to four points, the same as SEPoS. |
