LIMA, Peru, May 22, 2015 – Hosts Peru and Dominican Republic are
undefeated with 2-0 win-loss record at the U20 Women’s Copa
Latina following victories over Brazil and Cuba, respectively,
at Eduardo Dibos Coliseum of Miraflores on Friday.
Peru won the South American duel over Brazil 3-0 (26-24, 25-12,
25-21) while the Dominican Republic came out victorious from the
Caribbean battle against Cuba also 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-18).
Andrea Urrutia had 14 points as the top scorer for Peru followed
by Angela Leyva (13), Coraima Gomez (12) and Maguilaura Frias
(11). Beatriz de Carvalho stood out for Brazil with 10 points.
Peru led in attacks (43-29) and in aces (7-3). Both teams scored
with 9 blocks and the winners made 16 unforced errors to 17 by
the losers.
Yvett Garcia and Massiel Matos were the main offensive weapons
for the Dominican Republic with 14 points apiece in the victory.
“Our team has been reinforcing the technical work but they still
need to handle the focus during the match,” Peruvian coach
Natalia Malaga said. “In the second set they showed god attitude
and understood the serve was important and that’s the rhythm we
need to keep in all the matches.” |
