Peru beat Chile in straight sets
LIMA, Peru, August 14, 2018 - Peru opened its participation in
the IV Copa Panamericana Movistar with a 3-0 victory over Chile
(25-23, 25-21, 25-20). With this result the host team got their
first five points in Pool A, in the preliminary round for the
U23 World Championship and that takes place at the Manuel
Bonilla Coliseum in Miraflores.
Central Yujhamy Mosquera and attacking striker Brenda Lobatón
were the figures of the game registering 14 and 11 points
respectively, while for Chile Maike Bertens stood out with 11
points.
The host team demonstrated mastery of all the fundamentals:
attack (41-29), block (7-4) and service (5-4). Peru committed 27
unforced errors and Chile reduced them to 22.
"We went a little bit cold in the first set, but little by
little we caught the pace and we moved the score forward, this
Cup is serving to warm up our youngest teams, I know that match
by match the team will grow and show that the Peruvian
volleyball has talents with a lot of projection ", said the
captain of the Peruvian team, Shiamara Almeida.
The next opponent of Peru will be Guatemala on Wednesday 15 at
7:00 p.m., the next day will face Cuba at the same time that
today debuted with a 3-0 victory over the Guatemalans.
Meanwhile, Chile will seek its first triumph when it plays
against Cuba at 3:00 p.m. |
