Peru coming from behind overcomes Mexico

COLIMA, Mexico, August 4, 2025 – After losing the first set, Peru managed to win the next three sets and defeat in an electrifying match the home team 3-1 (21-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-21) to close out the second day of the Women's Pan American Volleyball Cup in Colima, Mexico.

With this victory, Peru improves its win-loss record to 2-0 in Group A.

Peru outscored Mexico in kills 57-52, while Mexico outscored Mexico in blocks 12-7 and in serves 8-4.

Aixa Vigil led the Peruvians with 16 points, followed by Sandra Ostos and Coraima Gómez with 13 and 10 points, respectively.

For Mexico, Uxue Guereca led the way with 17 points, while Sofía Maldonado added another 15.

Antonio Rizola, Peru coach: "It was a very important victory for us, where we once again came back from behind and showed that we didn't despair, we maintained our calm, tranquility, and, above all, the tactical discipline that is essential in the women's game."

Nicola Negro, Mexico coach: "We brought the lose upon ourselves because we played a game with very little discipline in the blocking-defense phase. We let Peru's offense go too far, and that's our responsibility, aside from the fact that the Peruvians played a tremendous game."
