Peru deactivated Cuba with its solid blocks
TRUJILLO, Peru, July 9, 2019 - Peru faced and defeated Cuba 3-0
(25-20, 28-26, 25-10) in Pool A of the Pan American Cup taking
place at the Gran Chimú Coliseum. Trujillo
Ángela Leyva, Karla Ortiz and Maricarmen Guerrero had the
highest individual score for Peru with 16, 13 and 11 points
respectively. Claudia Hernandez was the only one in Cuba to
reach double digits, with 12 points.
Peru deactivated the main offensive weapons of Cuba with a
forceful block (9-2), in addition it was superior in attack
(38-32) and services (4-3).
Coach of Peru, Francisco Hervás: We started very well, and
although in the second set we fell into that pothole the girls
were able to solve it. Staying with this victory has been very
rewarding, the girls deserved it and tomorrow we will face a
tough opponent, but that makes us happy, that's what we came to
play, learn and improve.
Coach of Cuba, Osmany García: Peru did a very good study job,
they knew how to take our main attackers out of play. This
caused the girls to become frustrated and leave the game, but it
is something that happens with young groups and it is something
that we have to work on and improve.
Cuba must recover to face Argentina on Wednesday 10 at 18:00.
Next, at 8:00 p.m. Peru will play the last game of the
preliminary round against the Dominican Republic. |
