Peru defeats Costa Rica and achieves third victory

COLIMA, Mexico, August 5, 2025 – Peru easily defeated Costa Rica in straight sets 3-0 (25-14, 25-16, 25-13) to achieve its third victory in as many days at the XXII Pan American Volleyball Cup held in Colima, Mexico.

The Peruvians dominated in attacks 49-22 and serves 5-2, while both teams had 6 in blocks.

Sandra Ostos had 14 points for Peru, leading the offensive, followed by Coraima Gómez and Karla Ortiz, who contributed 9 and 8 points respectively.

For Costa Rica, Ana Rojas stood out offensively with 9 points and Tannia Carazo added 6.

Antonio Rizola, coach of Peru: "A third victory in a championship like this is very important. When you're on the court, you shouldn't disrespect your opponent, you have to play seriously even if they're inferior, my concern was to stay focused, because if we stay focused like we have, it will be more difficult for them. José Miguel Briceño, coach of Costa Rica: "It was a slightly difficult match, we knew Peru was motivated after their victory against Mexico, professor Rizola rotated the team and maintained the tactical idea of ​​getting our forwards out, but we couldn't receive adequately, we had flashes of chance in some stretches of the set, but it wasn't enough to meet our goal of reaching more than 18 points”.
