Peru finishes in ninth place
PACHUCA, Mexico, June 18, 2014 - Peru defeated Costa Rica 3-1
(25-12, 25-12, 22-25, 25-14) in the match for the ninth position
at Carlos Martinez Balmori Multisport Hall in Pachuca on
Wednesday.
Karla Ortiz paced Peru’s offense with 17 points, followed by
Maguilaura Frias and Angela Leyva each with 15 points.
Angela Willis and Paola Ramirez finished with 13 and 11 points,
respectively, for Costa Rica.
Peru led in attacks (51-35), blocks (13-8) and aces (5-3). The
winners made 17 errors to 28 by the losers.
Natalia Malaga, coach of Peru: “My team kept its inconsistency
and they are not able to capitalize easy balls to define the
rally quickly.
That’s part of the lack of concentration like happened in the
third set when they were confident. You have to respect the
opponents. On the other hand they had good games against the big
teams. We go home without achieving our goal of finishing second
among the South Americans since we didn’t win the match against
Colombia.”
Horacio Bastit, coach of Costa Rica: “We played good in the
third set but in the fourth Peru dictated the rhythm. We are not
satisfied winning one set, at least two, against the teams that
are higher than us.
Peru was superior in the serve and reception.” |
