Peru rests on its serve against Guatemala
LIMA, Peru, August 15, 2018 - Peru got its second triumph in
Pool A of the IV U23 Pan American Cup, defeating Guatemala 3-0
(25-17, 25-11, 25-13) at the Manuel Coliseum Bonilla of
Miraflores. His next opponent will be Cuba on Thursday at 7:00
p.m.
Brenda Lobatón and Maricarmen Guerrero were the top scorers in
Peru with 15 and 13 points respectively. The red-and-white squad
controlled the game from the service zone with 9 points while
their opponent registered only 1, also had dominance in attack
(44-20) and blocking (4-3). The unforced errors were very
similar, 17 by the winning team and 18 by the loser.
"We are happy with the results obtained so far but we know that
the key match is tomorrow against Cuba. They are girls that we
already know, but we can’t go over confident, we hope to have
the support of the public and be able to continue unbeaten to
secure our place in the semifinal," said Peruvian top scorer,
Brenda Lobaton.
"We are not happy with the result, I think we could give it a
little more fight but being in front of an audience that always
supports volleyball we knew that they would make a good match.
We are left with the good things we did today, tomorrow we go
with everything to beat Chile and get our first win."
Peru closes the first stage of the competition facing the
unbeaten team of Cuba on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. At 1:00 pm,
Guatemala and Chile will face each other both looking for their
first triumph. |
