Peru
starts with win over
Costa Rica
IQUITOS,
Peru, June 10, 2013
- Peru
began its participation in
the Movistar Women's
Pan American Cup
beating Costa Rica
3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-16)
in a match of Group B
that lasted 1 hour
and 16 minutes.
Karla
Ortiz was the top
scorer for the
home team
with 13 points
followed by Patricia
Soto and
Raffaella Camet
who finished with 10
points apiece.
Mirtha
Uribe, the captain of
Peru, was
happy with the win
but not entirely with
the team's performance.
"It was
a good game but
could be better,"
said Uribe.
"We had prepared to
face an easier Costa Rica but they made
it difficult for us at the beginning of
the first two sets.
However, we were able to get
those first five
points and hope that
the next games
are better ".
Peru’s
Korean Coach,
Sung Jin Hong,
showed his
satisfaction for his first victory in
an official tournament
in overall command.
"The
girls responded," he
said. "I am glad
about debuting with a victory in
an official match, which was attained
much by the
enthusiasm and desire
put by the
players".
Horacio
Bastit, Coach of
Costa Rica, said: "I
am not satisfied, not
because of the 3-0,
because we knew it
was very difficult to
beat the Peru,
but because we made
many mistakes. I think the score had
to be by a less margin. The setters were not at their level and
that was important for Peru to
get this result."
Angela
Willis, captain of
Costa Rica: "I think
we missed a lot to
have a good game. We
fell into big mistakes. The
weather didn’t make things complicated for us, perhaps other
factors, but that’s not an excuse for the loss.” |
