LIMA, Peru, May 7, 2015 – Peru claimed their first victory at
the Final Four U18 Gatorade Cup by sweeping Baja California of
Mexico 3-0 (26-24, 25-12, 25-22) in 1 hour and 30 minutes in a
vibrant duel al Niño Héroe Manuel Bonilla Coliseum of Miraflores.
The top scorers for the winning side were Katherine Regalado and
Nicole Abreu with 14 and 10 points, respectively. For the
defeated side Veronica Gomez had 12 points while Daniela De la
Torre finished with 10 points.
In the first set both teams committed many unforced errors with
ineffective serves. In the following set the advantage of Peru
relied on the blocking while in the last one the Peruvians were
more effective in the attacks to claim the victory.
Peru dominated in attacks (41-25), blocking (3-2) and serves
(9-4) but made 27 unforced errors to 23 by the opponents.
The Peruvian captain, Nicole Abreu highlighted that “at the
beginning we didn’t communicate very well because we are testing
a new different method, but then the communication improved and
it showed in the outcome.”
The captain of Baja California, Mexico, Norma Petris, said: “It
was a very good match. We missed some details we need to
fine-tune but we are on that since this is a very important
preparation for us. Tomorrow we will be out to give all with
more enthusiasm, celebrating each point and putting a good fight
against the opponent side.” |
