Peru will play its first final
LIMA, Peru, August 18, 2018 - Peru will play its first final in
the U23 Pan American Cup after prevailing 3-0 against Mexican
counterpart (25-18, 25-17, 25-15) in the second semifinal match
at the Manuel Bonilla Coliseum.
Brenda Lobatón again led the Peruvian offense with 19 points,
while Maricarmen Guerrero and Kiara Montes contributed 13 and 12
points respectively. For Mexico the most outstanding was Sofía
Maldonado with 9 points.
Peru was superior in attack (49-25), blocking (9-2) and service
(5-1). Mexico managed to reduce its unforced errors to 12 while
the winning team committed 22.
The middle blocker of Peru, Maricarmen Guerrero: "For me it was
a great joy to return to play in my national team, that's why I
tried to make the most of this opportunity and I am happy to
have contributed today with the victory of my country against a
rival of big size and experience, but we will defend the shirt
with joy and a lot of Peruvian claw."
The captain of Mexico, Uxue Guereca: "It was a very tough game,
today we do not show our usual level of play but we have to turn
the page because tomorrow we have the opportunity to stay with
the bronze medal and it would be very important for our team".
In this fourth edition, Peru will seek to wrest the title of
champion to the Dominican Republic, which accumulates three gold
medals won consecutively. |
