LIMA, Peru, June 17, 2015 - Peru crushed Uruguay 3-0 (25-12,
25-8, 25-10) in the match for fifth place in Pool B of the XIV
Women’s Pan American Cup at Eduardo Dibos Coliseum on Wednesday.
In a lopsided match, Angela Leyva topped the home side with 13
points while Sofia Neves finished with 7 points as the top
producer of the losers.
Peru blanked the opposition in the blocking category 11-0 with
Maguilaura Frias totaling three blocks among her 8 points in the
game. Uruguay committed 35 unforced errors to only 12 by Peru.
Angela Leyva, player of Peru: “Today the services worked very
well against Uruguay and as our coach says we have to take every
game as a practice to learn, improve and grow. We know we have
to play Colombia, a very complicated opponent that never gets
down. We will try to do our best because is important for the
Grand Prix.”
Mauro Marasciulo, coach of Peru: “Colombia has had an important
performance in Pool A but our pool was stronger. I think our
chances are good about achieving our goal despite the
difficulties. We will battle for the spot. We qualified to the
World Cup and to be again in the Grand Prix is a new goal we are
going to achieve.”
Sabrina Olave, captain of Uruguay: “Being a young team these low
situations are normal but the idea is to continue working to
extend the good moments. Today it was not possible but we have
to keep pushing. Now we have a rest day to have clear minds for
the next match.”
Yamandu Peralta, coach of Uruguay: “We are a young team with ups
and downs but we have to keep working because we have a lot to
learn. Yesterday we had a good game with our serves but today
didn’t work. I think we respected Peru too much. But that’s the
reason we are here, because we learn more when we lost than when
we win.” |
