Plataneros dominate the Changos and advance
to the
LVSM semifinals
COROZAL, Puerto Rico, December 23, 2025. – The Plataneros de Corozal
celebrated an early “Noche Buena” by defeating the Changos de
Naranjito in straight sets (25-12, 25-19, 25-22) in a decisive
quarterfinal match of the Men’s Superior Volleyball League (LVSM),
securing the final available berth to the semifinal series.
Holding a two-point advantage at the technical timeout (12-10), the
Plataneros found their rhythm and never looked back. An attack error
by Clarke Godbold from zone two allowed Corozal to pull away, 17-13.
The
Plataneros sealed the set at 22-17 with an effective spike by Joseph
Oquendo from zone four. Shortly after, they reached set point at
24-21 following a service error by Naranjito’s Noel Rodríguez. The
victory was clinched at 25-22 with a spike by Spencer Olivier from
zone two.
Offensively, Jalen Penrose and Spencer Olivier once again stood out
as key contributors, scoring 16 and 15 points, respectively. For
Naranjito, Clarke Godbold led the way with 12 points.
With
this result, the semifinal matchups are set:
- Plataneros de Corozal vs. Cafeteros de Yauco
- Caribes de San Sebastián (two-time champions) vs. Patriotas de
Lares
The
series between San Sebastián and Lares will begin this Friday,
December 26th, at the Luis Aymat Cardona court, home of the Caribes.
The following day, Saturday the 27th, the Cafeteros de Yauco will
host the Plataneros at the Raúl “Pipote” Oliveras Coliseum.
Both
matches are scheduled to start at 8:00 p.m. |
