PONCE, Puerto Rico, April 9, 2015 – Ponce claimed its second
victory in as many tries at the Puerto Rican Women’s League
quarterfinals Series B by defeating Cataño 3-1 (25-22, 25-19,
23-25, 25-16) at Salvador Dijols Gymnasium on Wednesday.
Ponce held a 10-6 advantage in the blocking category and also
led in serving aces 5-2.
Haley Eckerman and Kelsey Robinson scored 24 and 20 points,
respectively, to spearhead the winning offense while Legna
Hernandez and Jetzabel del Valle contributed 14 and 11 in the
victory.
Kristy Jaeckel led the defeated side with 17 points, followed by
Shirley Ferrer and Tatiana Encarnacion with 16 and 10 points,
respectively.
In the opening match of Series A, Caguas scored a straight-set
(25-16, 25-13, 25-22) victory over Carolina.
Puerto Ricans Karina Ocasio and Stephanie Enright each had 17
points to lead the winners while Jessica Jones added 11 points.
Rachel Kidder tallied 11 points in the losing cause. |
