Powerful attack of Honduras beats Panama

MANAGUA, Nicaragua, June 25, 2019 - Honduras defeated Panama 3-1 (25-11, 22-25, 25-20, 25-14) achieving its second victory (2-1) of the IV Central American Championship U23 of Women's Volleyball, while the Panamanians are 0-3.

The Honduran serve took caused damage in the first set, taking an advantage from the start of 7 points, having Cecille Johnson as a figure in the service.

Nathaly Pérez with 20 points was the best for Honduras, achieving 14 in attack and 4 in blocking; Johnson scored 17 units (four in services). Yileen NG was with 9 points for Panama, which was surpassed in all by the Hondurans; 43-20 in attack, 7-6 in blocking and 13-7 in service, and could not take advantage of counter errors (37) for 34 committed.

Caterine Leiva, coach of Honduras: "I think we are growing every day, yesterday's defeat gave us a new mentality, we corrected some mistakes that we made yesterday and we improved on that. There is inexperience of some players, but we knew how to recover and we remain firm. We are preparing ourselves psychologically, the loss to Nicaragua left us affected, today we did not win as I wanted, but it is satisfactory."

Ismael Ortega, coach of Panama: "This is a team that is fighting, which is up, is something that we spoke from the first day that we would gradually improve the level. We are convinced that if we had played the first match as we played today, another was the story. It is a young team, with perspective, always working towards the future".

Honduras will face Costa Rica at 2:30 p.m. and Panama goes against Belize at 4:30 p.m.
