SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, July 11, 2015 – H. E. Danilo
Medina, President of the Dominican Republic, presented the
national flag to the members of the women’s volleyball team that
will participate in the 2015 Toronto Pan American Games.
Mr. Medina joked about the impressive size of the players as the
tall athletes spoke with the president during a special ceremony
organized at the National Palace in Santo Domingo.
He commented about the chances of the team of getting one of the
medals and encouraged the players to give their best effort to
attain the goal.
The volleyball team formed part of a commission of athletes and
Dominican sport authorities who visited the house of the
Dominican government on the eve of traveling to Toronto.
The players and technical staff will be departing on Sunday in a
direct flight from Punta Cana to Toronto. The volleyball action
serves off on July 17 until 26 in both genders.
Luis Mejia Oviedo, president of the Dominican Republic Olympic
Committee, and Jaime David Fernández Mirabal, Minister of
Sports, were among the special guests to the ceremony. |
