Prisilla Rivera among recipients of 2020 Medal of Merit
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, March 7, 2020 – Prisilla
Rivera, the current captain of the Dominican Republic’s
Volleyball National Team, popularly known as “The Queens of the
Caribbean” was one of 13 women who received the 2020 Medal of
Merit on Friday.
President Danilo Medina led the presentation of the medals in a
solemn ceremony that took place in Las Cariátides Hall of the
National Palace.
President Medina issued decree 98-20, through which he
recognized “women who are pride of our people”, on the occasion
of commemorating this Sunday the International Women's Day.
In a message read during the act by the official master of
ceremonies, José Guillermo Sued, the head of state motivated the
Dominican women “to continue fighting for their real and
positive positioning in our society”
President Medina was accompanied by the First Lady Candida
Montilla de Medina, vice president Margarita Cedeño de Fernández
and Janet Camilo, Minister of the Woman.
Rivera has been a member of the Volleyball National Team since
2003, playing in two Olympic Games and four World Championships
besides Pan American Games, Central American and Caribbean
Games, Pan American Cups and NORCECA Continental Championships. |
