SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, December 9,
2021 - The prominent Dominican volleyball player
Prisilla Rivera, who last October announced her
retirement from the National Team as captain of
the squad popularly called "Queens of the
Caribbean", was recognized by the Senate of the
Republic.
During a ceremony headed by the president of the
highest legislative body, engineer Eduardo
Estrella, Rivera received a scroll that
highlights her virtues as an athlete and her
twenty years as a member of the National Women's
Team.
During the ceremony the president of the
Dominican Senate was accompanied by several
member of the chamber including the popular
local artist Héctor Acosta.
Estrella highlighted Rivera's dedication
vocation for so many years of service to the
country in sports events, as well as her
condition as a citizen of high merit.
In his speech, Rivera said she was "highly
satisfied by the recognition and excited for the
moment."
"I never imagined that I would be the object of
an act of this nature that comes from such an
important power in the constitutional structure
of the Dominican State," she said. "This scroll
will be hung in a special place and the moment
lived here today will always remain in my
heart."
Rivera defended the national colors in three
Olympic Games (Athens, London and Tokyo) as well
as in five Pan American Games (Santo Domingo,
Rio de Janeiro, Guadalajara, Toronto and Lima)
and four Central American and Caribbean Games (Cartagena,
Mayaguez, Veracruz and Barranquilla).
She took part in the FIVB World Championships in
2006, 2010, 2014 and 2018 as well as Grand Prix
and League of Nations, Pan American Cups and
NORCECA Championships.
As a reinforcement player, she performed in the
Professional Leagues of Spain, Puerto Rico,
Azerbaijan, Turkey, Italy, Brazil and Indonesia. |
