Puerto Rican Hector Soto announces his retirement
GUAYNABO, Puerto Rico, August 31, 2017 – Hector –Picky- Soto
considered the best Puerto Rican volleyball player of all-time
announced the end of his 22-year career in a ceremony held in
Guaynabo attended by his wife, relatives and personalities of
Puerto Rican sports.
“We are going to miss a great athlete like Picky, one stellar
figure in the history of our confederation and the volleyball in
his country. We wish him well in his future personal and
professional plans. NORCECA always will be in debt with Picky
for his contributions to our sport,” said Cristobal Marte Hoffiz,
president of NORCECA.
Soto was the best scorer in several events, including the 2006
FIVB World Championship when he amassed 271 points and the 2007
FIVB World Cup when he topped all the scorers with 243 points.
Soto was the Most Valuable Player as Puerto Rico won three
consecutive gold medals at the Central American and Caribbean
Games in El Salvador 2002, Cartagena 2006 and Mayaguez 2010.
Picky made her professional debut in 1994 playing for Arroyo
Buccaneers, his native town, and also dressed for four other
teams. He also played in Tunisia, Japan, Italy, Belgium and
Russia. |
