Puerto Rican Venegas elected MVP at Challenger Cup
EDMONTON, Canada, May 21, 2018 – Puerto Rican libero Shara
Venegas who had been named best libero and best digger, was
selected the Most Valuable Player at the NORCECA Women’s
Volleyball Challenger Cup on Sunday.
The defense of Venegas was considered a key for the victory of
Puerto Rico in the five-set contest against host Canada to
define the champions of the tournament.
Daly Santana also of Puerto Rico was selected as the best scorer
after landing 30 points in the gold medal match while teammates
Raymariely Santos and Shirley Ferrer were named best setter and
best opposite.
Canada’s two middle blockers Alicia Ogoms and Jennifer Cross
were included in the all-star as well as Darlene Ramdin of
Trinidad & Tobago as first outside hitter.
Cuba’s Emily Borrell was recognized as best receiver and
compatriots Sulian Matienzo received plaques as best server and
second outside hitter. |
