Puerto Rican and American Girls with good start at YOG
BUENOS AIRES, Argentina, October 7, 2018 – Puerto Ricans María
González and Allanis Navas and Devon Newberry and Lindsey Sparks
of United States won their opening matches in the girls’ beach
volleyball tournament of the Youth Olympic Games on Sunday.
González and Navas, who are competing in Pool E, defeated
Paraguay’s Giuliana Poletti and Romina Ediger 2-0 (21-16,
21-14).
Newberry and Sparks, who form part of Pool A, crushed
Australia’s Tiaan Smith and Lauren Taylor 2-0 (21-9, 21-13).
In Pool D, Cao Shuting and Zeng Jinjin of China won 2-0 (21-13,
21-13) over María Juarez and Paola Alvarado of Guatemala.
In the boys’ competition:
Alexandre Lezcano and Criforth Lobo of Costa Rica lost to
Olivier Lanteri and Ludovic Palmaro of Monaco 2-0 (21-11, 21-17)
in Pool G.
Railbiently Mercalina and Brian Howell of Aruba lost to José
Osorio and Gabriel González of Venezuela 2-0 (21-12, 21-14) in
Pool F.
Timothy Brewster and John Schwengel of United States lost to
Indonesia’s Akbar Bintang and Herlambang Danang 2-0 (23-21,
21-18) in Pool F. |
