Puerto Ricans Figueroa and Rivera stood out in Nanjing
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic – Puerto Ricans Sergio
Figueroa and Danny Rivera were the best NORCECA boys’ team that
took part of the beach volleyball tournament at the Nanjing 2014
Youth Olympic Games.
Figueroa and Rivera reached the quarterfinals round where they
lost a close match 2-1 (21-14, 14-21, 15-11) to Venezuela’s
Gregorio -Tigrito- Gomez and Rolando Hernández.
The Puerto Rican pair had won their match in the Round of 16
over Norway’s Mol and Berntsen 2-1 (21-23, 21-18, 15-10).
Canadians Richard and MacNeil lost in the Round of 16 against
eventual champions Stoyanovskiy and Yarzutkin of Russia 2-0
(21-15, 21-16).
Richard and MacNeil won their match in the Round of 24 by
defeating La Pioneers and Osu Youth of Ghana, 2-0 (21-14,
21-24).
Richard and DeFalco of United States, Flores and Alvarez of
Guatemala, Shavar and Hutchinson of Jamaica and Delshun and
Fraser of St Vincent and Grenadines, didn’t advance from the
pool play. |
