Puerto Ricans Navas and González Champions at Hato Mayor

HATO MAYOR, Dominican Republic, November 6, 2022.- Puerto Ricans Allanis Navas and María González won the Hato Mayor Beach Volleyball tournament, the sixth stage of the NORCECA Tour, after beating Teegan Van Gunst and Katie Lindstrom of USA coming from behind 2-1 (13-21, 21-15, 15-9).

This is the first gold medal for Allanis Navas and María González in the NORCECA Beach Tour, second of this season, they won the silver medal in La Paz, Baja California, Mexico. While this is the second NORCECA Tour medal for Teegan Van Gunst and Katie Lindstrom; the first was the gold medal in the previous stage in Managua.

Navas/González reached the gold medal match with a spectacular 2-0 (35-33, 22-20) win over Canadians Amanda Harnett/Marie-Alex Bélanger.

In the other semifinal, Van Gunst/Lindstrom beat Bethania Almanzar/Esmeralda Ramírez of Dominican Republic with great rhythm 2-0 (21-13, 21-15).

Harnett and Bélanger won their third medal in the NORCECA Tour, taking the bronze over Dominicans Bethania Almanzar and Esmeralda Ramírez by a 2-1 (21-15, 16-21, 15-12) score.  Harnett and Bélanger won the bronze medal in Punta Cana and the silver medal in Managua.

Mexican duo of Evelyn Ramos and Esperanza Albarran finished fifth place after beating Guatemalans Natalia Girón and Laura Quiñonez 2-0 (21-13, 21-18); while their compatriots Atenas Gutiérrez and María Celeste Ibarra were injured and couldn’t face Canadians Devin Corah and Adriel Goodman who finished seventh.

Earlier, Ramos/Albarrán (MEX) had beaten Corah/Goodman (CAN) 2-0 (21-18, 21-13) and Girón/Quiñonez (GUA) defeated Gutiérrez/Ibarra (MEX) 2-0 (21-19, 22-20).

In the match for nineth place, Nicaraguans López/Lolette defeated Buckner/Almeida-Anz of the U.S. Virgin Islands 2-0 (21-16, 21-11) and for eleventh place, Nuñez/Quesada of Costa Rica won 2-0 (21-18, 21-15) against Thompson/Wolfenden of Cayman Islands.
