Puerto Ricans Rivera and Figueroa to quarterfinals in Nanjing
NANJING, China, August 23, 2014 – Puerto Ricans Daniel Rivera
and Sergio Figueroa reached the quarterfinals of the male’s
beach volleyball tournament of the Nanjing Youth Olympic Games.
Rivera and Figueroa, who topped their pool and received a bye to
the round of 16, won a thrilling match of three sets 2-1 (21-23,
21-18, 15-10) in 47 minutes over Norway’s Mathias Berntsen and
Anders Mol.
In the quarterfinals, the Puerto Ricans will meet Venezuela’s
Tigrito Gomez and Peter Hernandez who beat Renato Bogarin and
Elioth Frutos of Paraguay 2-0 (21-18, 23-21) in 35 minutes.
Canadians Andrew Richards and Jake MacNeil won their match in
the Round of 24 by scores of 2-0 (21-14, 21-14) in 26 minutes
over Ghana’s La Pioneers and Osu Youth. Then were eliminated in
the next round after losing 2-0 (21-15, 21-16) to Russia’s Oleg
Stoyanovskiy and Artem Yarzutkin. |
