Puerto Ricans Rivera and Padilla claim two wins in Porto
PORTO, Portugal, July 30, 2014 – Puerto Ricans Daniel Rivera and
Ricardo Padilla started off on the right foot at the U19 FIVB
Beach Volleyball World Championships by winning their two
matches in Pool E on Wednesday.
The Puerto Rican tandem began served off with a 2-0 (22-20,
21-17) victory over Lithuania’s Marius Barauskis and Edgaras
Bartkus and followed with a 2-1 (18-21, 21-12, 15-8) win against
Australia’s Regan Fathers and Simon Gray.
In Pool D, USA’s Torey DeFalco and Louis Richard commenced with
a loss to the hands of Brazilians Gabriel Mussi and Jonas
Fidelis 21-14, 21-19 but recovered to score a 21-16, 21-17
victory over Peruvians Luis Bramont and Jimy Heredia.
Mexicans Josue Gaxiola and Jose Luis Rubio, playing in Pool B,
edged Austria’s Johannes Kratz and Moritz Telsnigg 2-1 (21-17,
15-21, 15-12) and then lost to Germany’s Niklas Rudolf and Eric
Stadie 21-14, 21-13.
Sachin Avril and Andre Marquis of St Lucia and Canadians Zachery
Albert and Craig Ireland lost their two outings during opening
day.
Sachin/Marquis lost to Dimitriyev/Polichshuk of Kazakhstan 2-0
( 21-13, 21-10) and to Russians Yarzutkin/Stoyanovskiy 21-3,
21-7 in Pool F.
In Pool C, Albert/Ireland lost both times by the same score
21-15, 21-15 to Aranud Loiseau and Arnaud Gauthier of France and
Leo Aveiro and Santiago Aulisi of Argentina. |
