Puerto Ricans William Rivera and Randall
Santiago won their two matches in Pool A
advancing to the quarterfinals of the NORCECA
Men’s U23 Beach Volleyball Qualifier to the
Junior Pan American Games to be held in Cali,
Colombia from November 25 to December 5.
The Puerto Rican duo first subdued Joshua
Persaud and Daynte Stewart of Trinidad and
Tobago 2-0 (21-9, 21-10) and then defeated
Nicaragua’s Carlos Solís and Denis Lopez 2-0
(21-19, 21-17).
In Pool B, the tandems of Cuba and Mexico
claimed two victories in the four-team group.
Cubans Luis Reyes and Noslen Díaz downed El
Salvador’s Rolando Avalos and Gabriel Vargas 2-0
(21-15, 21-13) and Rayner Sarmiento and Deivy
Ramirez of Dominican Republic-B 2-0 (21-8,
21-10). Mexicans Raymond Stephens and Miguel
Sarabia first defeated Sarmiento/Ramirez 2-0
(21-16, 21-9) and finished with a 2-0 (21-14,
21-13) win against the Salvadorans.
In Pool C, the teams of Dominican Republic-A and
Guatemala won their two matches of the day and
will meet early on Saturday to define the
winners of the group of four pairs.
Dominicans Oscar Martínez and Hayerling de Jesus
won against Costa Ricans Criforth Fallas and
Daniel Dyner 2-0 (21-16, 21-16) and dispatched
Rio Victor and Levi Leonce of St. Lucia 2-0
(21-10, 21-8). The Guatemala’s team of Edgar
Maldonado and Andre Nuyens beat Victor/Leonce
2-0 (21-12, 21-19) and Fallas/Dyner 2-0 (21-14,
21-19).
