Puerto Ricans win Pool C in Nanjing
NANJING, China, August 21, 2014 – Puerto Ricans Sergio Figueroa
and Daniel Rivera secured first place in Pool C of the male
beach volleyball tournament of the Nanjing Youth Olympic Games
with a 2-1 (21-17, 18-21, 15-10) victory over France’s Arnaud
Gauthier and Arnaud Loiseau on Thursday.
Figueroa and Rivera improved their win-loss record to 4-0 after
the victory over the second place team of Gauthier and Loiseau
(3-1).
The Puerto Ricans complete their participation in pool play on
Friday when they are scheduled to meet Carlos Rosa and Ajai
Sweeney of U.S. Virgin Islands who are winless in four outings.
Rosa and Sweeney lost to Mohammadreza Shobeiri and Keyvan Sahneh
of Iran 2-0 (21-6, 21-12) on Thursday.
In Pool D, Andrew Richards and Jake MacNeil of Canada improved
to a 3-1 record after winning by forfeit against Lombi and
Kamara of Sierra Leone.
Tigrito Gomez and Rolando Hernandez of Venezuela defeated Louis
Richard and Torey DeFalco (1-3) 2-0 (21-17, 21-14) in Pool F.
Bryan Shavar and Rojey Hutchinson of Jamaica (0-4) lost to Nate
Moore and Kahuranqi Robinson of New Zealand 2-1 (21-19, 19-21,
15-6) in Pool B.
In Pool A, Delshun Welcome and Rodall Fraser of St Vincent (1-3)
lost to Mauricio Vieyto and Marco Cairus of Uruguay 2-0 (21-9,
21-11).
In Pool E, Erik Flores and Mark Alvarez (1-3) of Guatemala lost
to Oleg Stoyanovskiy and Artem Yarzutkin of Russia 2-0 (21-15,
