Puerto Rico and two Canadian teams unbeaten in North Bay
NORTH BAY, Canada, July 11, 2014 – Puerto Ricans Roberto
Rodriguez and Erick Haddock, who have achieved podium positions
in four of five competitions of the year, scored convincing
victories in their two outings on Friday at the North Bay Beach
Volleyball Tournament, the sixth leg of the 2014 NORCECA
Circuit.
The tandem Rodriguez/Haddock, victorious in Manzanillo, Mexico
and winners of a silver medal in Antigua Guatemala, opened the
actions in Pool A with a 21-16, 21-14 win over Cameron Wheelan
and Michael Plantinga of Canada-C and stormed past Cayman
Islands’ duo of Phillippe Desholandes and Richard Campbell
21-11, 21-11.
Veterans Josh Binstock and Samuel Schachter of Canada-B finished
the day with a 3-0 win-loss record in Pool B.
Binstock/Schachter beat Costa Rica’s Julio Alvares and Diego
Alpizar 21-9, 21-15, outscored Ty Nick Tramble and James Drost
of United States-A 21-17, 12-21, 15-8 and finished countrymen
Simon Fecteau-Boutin and James Battiston 21-15, 21-15.
In Pool C, Sam Pedlow and Grant O’Gorman of Canada-A defeated
Byron Ferguson and Rajahl Moxey of Bahamas 21-11, 21-8 and
outplayed Will Montgomery and Stafford Slick of United States-B
24-22, 21-18.
The men’s opening day was also highlighted by the three-set
victories of Julio Recinos/Erick Garrido over Deshollandes and
Campbell 20-22, 21-15, 16-14 and Ferguson/Moxey against Carlos
Rosa Jr and Peter Edwards Jr of U.S. Virgin Islands 21-15,
21-23, 15-11.
