Puerto Rico announces its Pan Am Cup squad
SAN JUAN; Puerto Rico, July 1, 2019 – The Puerto Rican Women’s
National Team is ready to participate in the 18th edition of the
Pan American Cup the premier annual event organized by NORCECA
Confederation which starts the qualification process to the
Central American and Caribbean Games Panama 2022.
Puerto Rico will play in the five-team Pool B alongside
Colombia, Mexico, Trinidad & Tobago and United States.
The members of the squad that has been training together since
its arrival from the Challenger Cup on early June, was announced
on Monday.
Veteran Aury Cruz is making a return to the national team for
the first time since the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games. The
veteran attacker has been part of the squad since 1997.
The captain Natalia Valentin leads the group alongside Wilmarie
Rivera as setters. The middles are Neira Ortiz, Ana Sofía Jusino
and Paola Rojas with Paulina Prieto and Génesis Collazo as
opposites.
The corners are Stephanie Enright, Aury Cruz, Pilar Marie
Victoriá and Sofía Victoriá. The libero is Nomaris Vélez.
Valentín, Cruz and the younger of the Victoriá sisters (Sofía)
will make their 2019 summer debut.
The coach of the team is José Mieles with Fernando Morales as
the assistant and Vimarys Cruz as therapist. |
