Puerto Rico beat Bahamas and improve to 1-1

CORDOBA, Mexico, November 26, 2014 - Puerto Rico improved their record to 1-1 at the XXII Central American and Caribbean Games after a three sets victory over Bahamas 25-12, 25-15, 25-10.

Maurice Torres tallied 11 points for Puerto Rico and Roberto Muniz scored 9. For the Bahamas, Byron Ferguson finished with 6. The Blocking game was key to get the more points as possible on the Puerto Rican side after dominating 12-4. Service was also key for Puerto Rico, after finishing 5-0, with 2 aces by Mannix Roman.

“Congratulations to Puerto Rico, a very great team. We tried to have a good fight, and tried to work hard, but fell short in our reception,” said Prince’ Tanique Wilson, captain of Bahamas.

“We expected a very resilient team, like the one we saw against Cuba. They showed resilience but not too much. After a long match against Venezuela, we had just little time to recover and did not have our previous training session because we had to play the first match of today. But it was fine because it went so fast,” said Hector Soto, captain of Puerto Rico.

“Puerto Rico is a very tough team. We had the chance to see that very long and tough last night match against Venezuela. We tried to execute like we did against Cuba, but came out flat except in the second set, but they played at a totally different level,” said Devince Smith, coach of Bahamas.

“I think that after yesterday’s defeat against Venezuela, we played more focused. It was important to win because we must seek the qualification. Bahamas are a team that has improved a lot, but they were not the team that we saw against Cuba. We tried to make the least mistakes and that made a difference in points, because in the end, everything counts to qualify,” David Aleman, coach of Puerto Rico, exposed.
