SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, September 7,
2021 – Puerto Rico defeated Suriname 3-1 (25-14.
21-25, 25-15, 25-10) in a match between winless
teams at the Men’s Volleyball Pan American Cup
on Tuesday.
These two teams will meet again on Wednesday in
the contest for the fifth position before the
two semifinal matches.
Jair Santiago and Ismael Alomar led the attack
of Puerto Rico with 14 and 11 points,
respectively, while Pedro Molina added 9 in the
victory.
Keven Spokslede and Zefanio Breinburg were the
main scorers for Suriname with 13 and 11 points,
respectively.
Alberto Torres, coach of Puerto Rico: “We came
to this tournament with the idea of testing our
young players to check which level they were at.
To me that was very important. Not winning some
matches leave a bad taste, but we made too many
errors.”
Arturo Sabbatini, coach of Suriname: “It was a
good tournament for us. It was good for our guys
to train in the morning and play in the
afternoon. Our main problem was that we only
could train for three months as the gyms and
academies all were closed.
Our guys were not 100 % physically.” |
