CALLAO, Peru, June 15, 2015 – Puerto Rico claimed its second
triumph by subduing Mexico 3-0 (25-20, 26-24, 25-22) in day
three of Pool A of the XIV Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup
being played at Miguel Grau Coliseum of Callao. It was the third
defeat for Mexico.
Stephanie Enright was the best scorer for Puerto Rico with 15
points followed by the captain Yarimar Rosa with 12 markers. For
Mexico once again Lizbeth Sainz stood out as the best scorer of
her team with 10 tallies.
Puerto Rico overcame a battling opponent thanks to their better
experience. After a dominant first set, they had to put a great
effort to turn the tables against the opponents in the second
and third sets to win in straight sets.
Yarimar Rosa, the captain of Puerto Rico: “We were able to close
the game thanks to the confidence that we have in ourselves.
They had the leads but we were able to overcome those deficits
in each set and celebrate a new victory.”
Dulce Carranza, captain of Mexico: “Today we played much better
than in the previous matches, but it was not enough. We were
close to win the sets but we missed determination and had some
back luck also.”
Jose Mieles, coach of Puerto Rico: “Today we faced an opponent
that surpassed its previous performances. It has been an intense
match and we gave playing opportunity to a big part of our squad
because we are looking for regularity of our group.”
Jorge Miguel Azair, coach of Mexico: “Today the little
experience of my setters was decisive in the most important
parts of the match. Despite of the result I admit that my team
is young but it is showing growing progress.” |
