ZIELONA GORA, Poland, June 4, 2016 - Puerto Rico made a short
work of team Canada winning 3-0 (25-18, 25-11, 25-16) in Group
Two of the World Grand Prix.
Puerto Rican players showed a great collective with Stephanie
Enright standing out in the score charts with 13 points,
including three blocks and two service aces.
“Today we concentrated on serving,” Enright said. “We served
really well and we had a lot of discipline on blocking which
provided us with opportunities for counter attacks and that gave
us many points today.”
In Bendigo, Cuba has beaten hosts Australia 3-1 (25-22, 27-25,
18-25, 27-25) in an epic encounter that thrilled the capacity
crowd. Sulian Matienzo topped Cuba with 19 points followed by
Jennifer Alvarez with 14.
In Algeria, Lizbeth Sainz scored 12 points to inspire Mexico’s
victory 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-15) over host nation Algeria in
Group Three on Friday. In Saturday’s outing, Mexico lost to Peru
3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-13).
In Tucuman, Argentina, Bethania De La Cruz saved an almost
sealed match against Argentina with an incredible strike to earn
the Dominican Republic’s first victory in the 2016 FIVB
Volleyball World Grand Prix, 3-2 (22-25, 25-16, 25-15, 23-25,
16-14).
The Dominican captain scored 25 points and completed a magical
night in Tucuman.
Brayelin Martinez also had 25 in the victory. |
