Puerto Rico downs Honduras in second U19 Pan Am Cup victory

GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, May 24, 2022. - Puerto Rico downed Honduras 3-0 (25-10, 25-14, 25-15) earning their second victory at the Boys U19 Pan American Cup being held in Guatemala City.

Puerto Rico stands in pool A with 2-0 win-loss record; winning their pool tomorrow will advance them directly into semifinals and qualifying to the FIVB World Championship.

Puerto Rico edged Honduras with a huge serving margin of 16-1; they also held a 37-7 attacking margin and a 5-0 blocking advantage. Honduras committed fewer errors than Puerto Rico (17-31).

Outside hitter Victor Torres of Puerto Rico was the only player that scored double digits, with 13 points on 9 kills and 4 aces. Outside hitter Diego Lopez and middle blocker Yann Colon collected 8 points each. Diego Lopez led in serves with 5 aces.

Honduras’ best scorer was opposite hitter Ary Contreras with 5 points.

Honduras will face Dominican Republic on the last day of pool-play and Puerto Rico closes against the host Guatemala.

With our coaching staff we are looking for our players to improve their level of play”.
