CALLAO, Peru, June 17, 2015 - Puerto Rico booked a spot in the quarterfinals by dispatching Colombia in straight sets 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-21) in decisive contest for third place in Pool A of the XIV Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup at Miguel Grau Coliseum of Callao on Wednesday.

Stephanie Enright registered 15 points to lead the scores followed by Aury Cruz and Shirley Ferrer each with 10 points. Cindy Ramirez was the best offensive player for the losers with 11 points while Amanda Coneo and Yeisy Soto finished with 10 apiece in the loss.

Puerto Rico made only 12 unforced errors to 22 by Colombia. The winners led in attacks 38-34 and blocks 9-7. Both teams had six aces.

Yarimar Rosa, captain of Puerto Rico, commented: “We are very happy with the victory. The first set was complicated but then we took control of the pace and went on to win.”

Maria Alejandra Marin, captain of Colombia: “Today our team wasn’t able to follow the instructions of our coach. Things didn’t work out well.  We were out of sync and failed too much in the reception.”

Jose Mieles, coach of Puerto Rico: “After the exhausting match against Argentina we decided to rest the team in the morning as we had to recover to play Colombia, a team that is coming along pretty well. It worked the way we planned so we are still seeking our goal of making it to the podium.”

Eduardo Guillaume, coach of Colombia: “Puerto Rico is a team that always dominate the long rallies and that’s something my young squad can’t control. The difference was in the errors.”
