Puerto Rico gets second victory in Pool D
HAMAMATSU, Japan, October 1, 2018 - Daly Santana starred for
Puerto Rico in a hard fought 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-15) victory
over Kenya in Pool D play at the FIVB Women's World Championship
on Monday afternoon.
Santana racked up a match-high 18 points, while teammate
Stephanie Enright totaled 13 in the win. Mercy Moim led Kenya
with 11 points in the loss.
Puerto Rico prevailed in the contest via a stronger attack and
superior defense. Kenya played well at times, but could not
sustain it for any long period.
Jose Mieles, Coach of Puerto Rico: “We are happy to get the win.
We want to go to the second round. We will use the day off
tomorrow to get ready for our match with the Dominican Republic.
We will do our best going forward in the matches.”
In Yokohama, Japan delighted another big crowd at Yokohama Arena
on Monday night by defeating Mexico 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-15) in
Pool A to improve their win-loss record to 2-1. Mexico slipped
to 1-2.
It was a fine team effort by Japan, whose top scorers were
southpaw Miyu Nagaoka (14 points/10 spikes), Yuki Ishii (13/12
spikes) and Mami Uchiseto (9/3 aces). Japan recorded a total of
13 service aces. Mexico replied with 10 points apiece for
captain Andrea Rangel, Samantha Bricio and Melanie Parra. |
