Puerto Rico secure spot in final match of NORCECA Playoff
CAROLINA, Puerto Rico, July 18, 2014 – Led by the offense of
opposite Maurice Torres defeated Guatemala 25-17, 25-13, 25-9 to
secure its participation in the final match for the
qualification to the Men’s World Championship in Poland.
Puerto Rico controlled the game in both the offensive and
defensive aspects, and didn’t face much resistance from
Guatemala. The local side used all their players and dominated
in attacks and blocks during the match.
Torres was the best Puerto Rican scorer with 12 points, followed
by Jose Rivera with eight and Pedrito Sierra and Jackson Rivera
each with seven. Moises Reyes was the best Guatemalan with seven
points.
“I was able to use all the players once again, to give them
playing time. I saw improvement in the game of our boys, now we
have to concentrate for the two big games against the
Dominicans,” Puerto Rico’s Coach David Aleman said.
On the other hand, the coach of Guatemala David Aldana
commented: “We knew we were going to face the best team of this
tournament and I am glad about my boys because they never quit
and battled against a great team.” |
