WLOCLAWEK, Poland, June 12, 2016 – Puerto Rico advanced to the
Final Four of the FIVB World Grand Prix Group 2 with a perfect
6-0 win-loss record following the victory over hosts Poland 3-0
(25-21, 25-21, 25-23) on Sunday.
Stephanie Enright and Lynda Morales each recorded 12 points as
the top offensive contributors in the victory while Karina
Ocasio added 10. Berenika Tomsia had a match-high 16 points in
the losing effort and Anna Grejman finished with 11.
Puerto Rico outscored Poland in the blocking category 12-4 and
held the edge in spikes 39-38. The two teams were already
qualified to the Final Four along with hosts Bulgaria and the
Dominican Republic.
In Group 3 on Saturday night, hosts Peru edged Cuba 3-2 (25-14,
23-25, 20-25, 25-19, 15-6) in Chiclayo with Angela Leyva leading
the victory with 28 points. Melissa Vargas had 25 for Cuba.
In Cali, Colombia, Kazakhstan defeated Mexico 3-1 (25-20, 25-18,
26-28, 25-20). Radmila Beresneva led the winners with 22 points
while Dulce Carranza and Lizbeth Sainz each had 15 points for
Mexico. |
