GATINEAU, August 13, 2022: A young Brazilian
squad was defeated by Puerto Rico 0-3 (23-25,
22-25, 19-25) today at the 15th Pan
American Cup held at the Slush Puppie Centre in
Quebec, Canada.
Puerto Rico will get a chance to play for 5th place
in the tournament tomorrow, and Brazil will play
to determine places seven and eight.
Puerto Rico’s more efficient offense was the
difference maker in this match: they led by
43-28 in attacking points. Other skills were
more even: 4-4 in blocks and 4-4 in service
aces. Puerto Rico had slightly more errors than
Brazil (28-24).
For Puerto Rico, 19 year-old Klistan Lawrence
stood out as top scorer with 21 points. Samuel
Carazzai de Morais Neufeld, at 17 years of age,
led scoring for the South American side with 13
points.
This was the first of four matches in today’s
