Puerto Rico wins fourth in a row in Pool A
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, July 5, 2016 – Puerto Rico
claimed its fourth victory in a row, without losing a single
set, by sweeping Venezuela 3-0 (25-12, 25-21, 25-17) in Pool A
of the XV Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup on Tuesday.
Venezuela slipped to a 1-3 mark.
Puerto Rico outscored Venezuela 7-1 in aces and also dominated
in the spikes 42-26.
Stephanie Enright and Aury Cruz topped the winners with 13 and
10 points, respectively, while Luz Delfines was the best scorer
for Venezuela with 13 points.
“We are very glad with our overall game,” Puerto Rican Yarimar
Rosa stated. “We still need to adjust our reception to
facilitate the job of our setters.”
“We failed in our reception and because of that we couldn’t put
our plan in action,” Venezuelan Desiree Glod said. “We didn’t
have good moments.”
“Puerto Rico had a good tactical plan and we couldn’t receive
well,” said Ivan Nieto, the coach of Venezuela. “We couldn’t
find a way to attack the way we wanted.”
“We wanted to neutralize their attack down the middle and
concentrate in blocking at the corners,” said Juan Carlos Nuñez
of Puerto Rico. “We succeeded in our plan with good serves even
though our reception was subpar today.” |
