Puerto Rico, Mexico, and Costa Rica Set the Pace in Manzanillo
MANZANILLO, Colima, August 29, 2025. — The opening men’s day of the
2025 NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tour kicked off with great intensity
in Manzanillo, where Puerto Ricans William Rivera and Diego Rosich
and Costa Ricans Julián Araya and Jhostin Varela recorded two
victories each, while Americans Timothy Brewster and Ryan Ierna
needed three sets to edge out Mexico’s José Cárdenas and Jorman
Osuna.
In Pool D, Rivera/Rosich confirmed their status as favorites after
defeating Canada’s Tynan Gannett and Guillaume Rivest (21-19, 21-19)
and Guatemala’s José Izaguirre and Santiago Penagos (21-18, 21-19).
Araya/Varela also shined in this group with two clear wins: first
against Izaguirre/Penagos (21-12, 21-15) and later over
Gannett/Rivest (21-12, 21-12).
In Pool B, Cárdenas/Osuna opened strong against El Salvador’s Carlos
Mejía and Gabriel Vargas (21-18, 21-13) but fell in a high-pressure
duel against Americans Brewster/Ierna, who closed with a tight 2-1
victory (21-18, 19-21, 15-12).
The biggest surprise came in Pool A, where Mexicans Lares and Carlos
Andrés Ayala defeated the U.S. duo Lev Priima and Charles Siragusa
in straight sets (21-15, 22-20), after the Americans had earlier
swept Trinidad & Tobago (21-7, 21-12).
In Pool C, Canadians Robert Kemp and Cameron Chadwick showed
consistency by defeating Puerto Ricans Cristian Encarnación and José
Pacheco (21-18, 21-15), after the Puerto Ricans had opened with a
win against Guatemala’s Luis García and Andrés Maldonado (21-14,
21-19).
With these results, the day confirmed the favorites but also left
room for surprises, with Mexico and Costa Rica raising the
excitement heading into the next stage this Saturday.
