Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Cuba and Mexico remain as finalists Santa Marta
SANTA MARTA, Colombia, November 24, 2022.- Women’s top four teams of
Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Cuba and Mexico remain as finalists after
winning the I Central American and Caribbean Sea and Beach Games
quarterfinals at the Santa Marta Multisport “500 años” in El Rodadero.
Puerto Ricans Allanis Navas and María González of Puerto Rico kept their
strong defense display over Gabriela Funes and Sofía Velásquez of El
Salvador 2-0 (21-10, 21-11), who earlier won their playoff to Chlouie
Gaetos and Deajra Tulloch of Cayman Islands 2-0 (21-10, 21-11).
Venezuelans Luisana Linares and Yhonnielis Camacho dominated Nahima
Silva and Alejandra Rosales of Nicaragua 2-0 (21-15, 21-11). Previously,
Silva/Rosales beat Suriname’s Shaniva and Sharon Balkaran 2-0 (21-12,
21-15).
Amanda Armanteros and Jennifer Rivera of Cuba needed a stronger effort
in the first set to beat Colombians Ana Fernanda Beltrán and Vanessa
Buenañoz 2-0 (21-19, 21-13) who came from an easy victory against Dei
Padmore and Serena Edwards of Barbados 2-0 (21-9, 21-9) in playoffs.
Mexicans Abril Flores and Katherine Albarran downed Kianny Araya and
Ximena Nuñez of Costa Rica 2-0 (21-11, 21-10). Earlier in playoffs,
Araya and Nuñez defeated Britney Choon and Tsyan Selvon of Trinidad and
Tobago 2-0 (21-11, 21-13).
The first semifinal on Saturday is between Allanis Navas and María
González of Puerto Rico against Abril Flores and Katherine Albarran of
Mexico, followed by the semifinal between Cubans Amanda Armanteros and
Jennifer Rivera against Luisana Linares and Yhonnielis Camacho of
Venezuela.
Medal matches are scheduled to start at noon.
