Rico’s young squad sweeps Barbados
BURNABY, Canada, May 16, 2026:
Puerto Rico will have the opportunity to play for fifth place in the
U19 NORCECA Boys’ Continental Volleyball Championship, held in
Burnaby, British Columbia.
On
Saturday, Puerto Rico swept Barbados 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-13)
leading in attack points (48-32), aces (4-2) and making fewer errors
(15-21). The advantage in blocking was held by Barbados
4-2.
Opposite Lucas Colon Lecompte of Puerto Rico led scoring with 17
points for the winning side. Piere Gill of Barbados was next on the
match scoresheet with 12 points.
Puerto Rico’s Head Coach, Herman Ommy Torres Calvo, expressed pride
in today’s performance:
“We
have been happy even in defeat, as we know we are in a development
process with the players we have. They are 15 years old, and we are
working toward upcoming competitions and the World Championship so
we can go into those events strong.”
Barbados will play for positions 7 and 8 against Dominican Republic
tomorrow. |
