Rangel named Player of the Week in Puerto Rico
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, January 29, 2019- Andrea Rangel, the
attacker of Changas of Naranjito who was fundamental in the two
victories of her side in the first week of the Puerto Rican
Women’s Superior League, was elected Player of the Week.
Rangel, playing in her third season, was third in scoring (36)
and attacks (30) and tied for first in aces (4). She was named
in the Ideal Team of the week as wing spiker.
Paulina Prieto of Valencias of Juncos, who leads in scoring (51)
was named as the other wing spiker. Prieto had a week-high 33
points last Sunday against Trujillo Alto.
Middle Blockers Paola Rivera of Naranjito and Neira Ortiz of
Polluelas of Aibonito, each had seven blocks while Sarai Alvarez
of Indias of Mayaguez stood out among the opposite attackers.
The veteran Alvarez leads in attacks with 45 kills and is second
in scoring with 46 points.
Kathie Sanchez, the rookie of Indias, has accumulated 62 assists
to top all the setters and her teammate Nomarie Velez was
included in the team as libero with an average of 11.88 of
effectiveness. Velez leads in digs with 55.
The actions resume on Wednesday with three scheduled matches:
Caguas at Toa Baja, Mayaguez at Juncos and Trujillo Alto at
Aibonito at 8:00 P.M. |
